SideDog Privacy Policy
SideDog is a browser extension and web service that helps you understand web pages with AI. This policy explains what data we process, why, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account ID, email address, name and profile picture. When you sign in with WeChat, we receive a 7m7s account ID, your WeChat nickname and profile picture (WeChat does not share an email address). We use them to create and identify your SideDog account. A Google sign-in and a WeChat sign-in create separate SideDog accounts.
- Sign-up source. If you reached our website through a link that names a channel (such as a launch site or a social media post), we record that channel name with your account when you sign up, to see which channels bring users. See “Cookies and local storage” below.
- Video captions. On a video page (for example YouTube or Bilibili), SideDog reads the video's captions in your browser and uses them as the page text. They are only sent to our service when you ask a question, like any page text. To read YouTube captions, SideDog briefly asks the video player to load them and then restores your caption setting.
- PDF files. When the current tab shows a PDF, SideDog downloads the file inside the extension and extracts its text on your computer. The file itself is never uploaded; like any page, its text is only sent to our service when you ask a question.
- Page translation. When you translate a page, the visible text of that page is sent to our service in batches and forwarded to our AI model provider. This is more of the page than a question sends: a question sends the extracted article text, while a translation sends every visible paragraph. Nothing is translated until you click Translate, and we do not store the page text or the translations.
- Picture addresses (optional, off by default). The pictures on a page are never uploaded, and SideDog cannot see what they show. If you turn on "Send picture addresses with the page", the web addresses of the pictures on the page are included with the page text so SideDog can hand you a link. SideDog asks once, on a page that actually has pictures, and remembers your answer; you can change it at any time in settings. We do not fetch or store those pictures.
- Usage records. We store your account creation time, sign-in time, trial and plan status, and a daily count of AI requests, so we can apply free-trial and fair-use limits. We also keep aggregate daily statistics (numbers of requests, errors and active accounts, identified only by a shortened account ID) to run and improve the service; they never include the content of your questions or pages.
- Content you send. When you ask a question, the extension sends your question, any images or screenshots you attach, recent messages in the conversation (including images attached earlier in it) and, if enabled, the text of the current page or your selection to our service, which forwards it to our AI model provider to generate an answer.
- Feedback. If you send feedback from SideDog’s settings, we store your message, the category you chose, your account ID, name and email address, and the extension version, interface language and browser, so we can reply and fix problems. Only SideDog’s administrators can read it. To have it deleted, email contact@7m7s.tech.
What stays in your browser
- Your conversation history, the images you attach and your settings are stored locally in your browser's extension storage. They are not uploaded to our servers except as part of a question you send.
- Page content is read locally and kept in memory only while the side panel is open. Simply browsing does not send anything.
- When a page embeds content from another site in a frame, SideDog may read that frame's text as part of the page. Frames follow the same "do not read automatically" list, and you can turn frame reading off in settings.
How we use and share information
- To authenticate you, provide the service, enforce trial and usage limits, prevent abuse and keep the service secure.
- WeChat sign-in is handled by tools-7m7s, the sign-in service we operate for 7m7s products, which runs on Cloudflare. It connects to WeChat on our behalf, keeps the WeChat identity needed to recognize you next time, and gives SideDog only the account ID, nickname and profile picture. SideDog does not receive your WeChat password or chat data.
- Questions, images and page content are processed by Agnes AI to generate responses. We do not store the content of your questions, images, pages or answers on our servers.
- Our backend runs on Tencent Cloud EdgeOne, which may keep standard access logs such as IP address and request time.
- We do not sell your personal information and do not use it for advertising. There are no analytics or tracking scripts in the extension.
- We do not use your questions, pages or images to train AI models, and we do not transfer them to anyone except the providers named above for the purpose of answering you. We may disclose information if the law requires it.
Google user data
When you sign in with Google, SideDog receives only your basic profile (account ID, email address, name and profile picture) and uses it only to create and identify your account. SideDog's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements, and the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy.
Security
- All traffic between the extension, the website and our service uses HTTPS.
- The keys for our AI model provider are kept only on our servers and are never sent to the extension or the website. The extension only holds your own sign-in token.
- Access to account records is limited to the administrators of SideDog.
Where data is processed
Our service and the providers named above may process data in countries other than yours, including outside the European Economic Area. We only share what is needed to provide the service.
Children
SideDog is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, or to object to its processing. Your conversations are already in your browser and can be exported or cleared in settings. For account data, contact us at contact@7m7s.tech; we will respond within 30 days. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Cookies and local storage
- When you sign in on our website or in the extension, we set one secure, HttpOnly cookie on sidedog.7m7s.tech to keep you signed in for up to 30 days. It is used only for authentication.
- If you pick a language on our website, the choice is saved in your browser's local storage so the site opens in that language next time. It is not a cookie and is never sent to our servers.
- If you arrive at our website through a link that names where it came from (for example
?ref=producthunt), we save only that source name in a first-party cookie on sidedog.7m7s.tech for up to 30 days. When you create an account, the source name is stored with it so we can count how many sign-ups each channel brings. It contains no other information and is not shared with anyone. - We do not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics.
Browser permissions
- Side panel, storage, unlimited storage, scripting: show the side panel, save settings, conversations and attached images locally, and read the text of the current page when you use SideDog.
- Identity: open the SideDog sign-in window (Google or WeChat).
- Context menu: add "Ask SideDog about this image" when you right-click an image. The image is only read when you choose it.
- Access to websites (optional): requested only when you choose to let SideDog read web pages. You can revoke it at any time in your browser's extension settings.
Retention and deletion
- Account information and usage records are kept while your account exists.
- You can export your conversations and attached images, or clear them, at any time in SideDog settings. Exported files are generated in your browser and are not uploaded.
- To delete your account data, email us at contact@7m7s.tech from the email address of your account. We will delete it within 30 days.
Sensitive pages
Please do not use SideDog on pages containing banking, payment, health or other sensitive information. You can add such sites to the "Do not read automatically" list in settings.
Changes
We will update this page when our practices change and revise the effective date above.
